Have you ever thought about what it would be like to wear cocktail dresses as a man? Or thought about what it would mean if YOUR husband started doing it today? Whether you're a woman whose husband has developed a fondness for this, or a man who simply enjoys dresses — welcome to this post!
Tips and my recommendations
Let's get this out of the way right up front: I've fallen in love. Especially with a handful of brands. The first one is even from Germany (SWING dresses). They don't just deliver absolute top quality, they also offer extravagant, striking, and genuinely beautiful designs and shapes. My wife was hooked immediately, and she's the one who suggested the first outdoor shoot on this blog — my very first outdoor shoot in dresses at all.
ONLY, and of course VERAMONT.
Cocktail dresses for men
Shop this dress by VERAMONT* now on Amazon.
This section heading is actually entirely inspired by the clicks and search queries this blog gets. Surprisingly many people, it turns out, are interested in cocktail dresses. Cocktail dresses for men, to be precise.
Yes, you read that right. Men rarely do it, noticeably so, but they should be doing it more and more. And to the women of this world: after years of drab, casual home-office wear, I'm calling on you too — get dressed up, and show life some great colors, shapes, and cuts.
That doesn't mean a dress in a larger size automatically fits, let alone looks good. You need to be able to tell the famous potato sack apart from a fine, figure-flattering party dress. I've had dresses that, according to the manufacturer, were "oversized," but visually ended up looking more like a thrown-on blanket. Size is simply not just size.
Which is exactly why I want to use this post to entertain, inform, and inspire you. Feel free to leave a comment at the end about whether you wear dresses yourself, or your partner does, and how you feel in either situation.
Why men should wear cocktail dresses
Which of course brings us back to the underlying question: why should a man wear dresses at all? And, more importantly: which ones?
More than a few of my blog posts have circled around that original question. It really is an interesting one, and it's much easier to answer with a counter-question. Ask society "why should men NOT wear dresses" and you'll get some very clear answers! Because the anatomy is supposedly wrong, the colors don't fit the classic idea of gender roles, the cuts are tailored to feminine curves, and the fabrics and patterns are geared toward women too.
Getting the hosiery right
Personally, I'm a big fan of KUNERT and FALKE as premium hosiery brands. Beyond that, I can recommend "nur die" and other drugstore brands.
It also always comes down to what you're going for. The feel of KUNERT silk tights is simply indescribably good. Add a satin dress or a hemline gliding over your legs on top of that, and it's really something else. That said, it's not always cheap, and tights obviously don't last forever. Still, I can highly recommend the current KUNERT sale*. Or, if you'd rather order elsewhere, you can also find these elegant leg pieces on Amazon*.
Show what you've got
Since I didn't (yet) have a collection of cocktail dress inspiration to share, I'm packing this post with a story — and the first photos!
I discovered Amazon Wardrobe, also known as Prime Try Before You Buy, for myself. The concept of "try it on, pay later" works really well when dressing sharp and attractively is your hobby. The only downside: the math never quite adds up, because I end up ordering — and keeping — way too much for this blog, just to create even more inspiration for my readers.
Which is also why I've started working with affiliate links to my favorite pieces and services these days. Feel free to order through one of these links — I earn a small commission, and while it doesn't exactly fund the whole blog, it does cover the morning coffee that goes into writing these posts.
Something else I can wholeheartedly recommend is the Breuninger online shop* for cocktail dresses. Fast shipping, genuinely extravagant pieces, and a great shopping experience overall. No endless loading times, no complicated navigation, and — this is a real relief — no occasionally pushy sales staff trying to slap another sticker on the garment. You can browse, search, and order in complete peace.
Either way, three packages were waiting to be opened that week. As I mentioned, I simply wanted to meet the demand for photos and posts about cocktail and evening dresses for men.
Time for your entrance
And in dresses like these, depending on the season, you'll feel the electrifying (spring) sun on your skin. Or you'll catch the dawn and simply get to enjoy the day.
I have to admit, I feel completely at home in cocktail dresses. My wife is pretty blown away by quite a few of the pieces too — so much so that with some of them, she showers me with compliments 🙂.
