Dresses for Men Shopping Guide
Where do I actually buy dresses as a man?
Whether it's a simple everyday dress or an opulent evening gown, there's a dress online for every occasion and taste. The only question left is: which dress actually suits you? And more importantly: which dress works on a man's body? Anyone who's ever gone looking for the perfect dress knows the search isn't easy. First and foremost, a man's build is the biggest challenge. Beyond pattern, fabric and colour, there's also a huge range of cuts that behave completely differently depending on your body shape.
The effect a dress has on how its wearer looks shouldn't be underestimated. It can either put your body perfectly in the spotlight, or draw unwanted attention to the wrong places.
"People stare. Make it worth their time!" (Harry Winston)
Are you actually serious about this?
It's become a bit trendy for men to be seen in clothing that's typically reserved for women. Take pop star Harry Styles, who was photographed in a dress for the cover of American Vogue last year. Football player Odell Beckham Jr. took it a step further, showing up in a skirt to the Met Gala in New York.
A few years back, Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith, posed in a pleated skirt for a Louis Vuitton campaign, and Kanye West once wore a leather kilt by Givenchy in front of the cameras. Whenever this happens, these men get celebrated for their courage.
Yes, but...
You could of course ask whether those men are simply braver because they're already famous and have reached icon status. So why aren't there more men here wearing dresses — especially within the LGBT community, who you'd expect to wear dresses in public without a second thought? Because more often than not, they don't get a pat on the back for their courage. They get put-downs, laughter, and sometimes even threats of violence.
And what about your family?
They're fully behind me! Usually in flatter heels, but behind me nonetheless. My partner is sometimes my single biggest fan. I suppose that makes me a small-scale micro-influencer. No other man in my extended family shares my taste, but the women are always genuinely excited and curious about whatever new piece I show up in. I get asked all the time: "Where's that from? I want one too..." So you see, it's possible. Dare to try it!
How do you actually get the dresses?
There are plenty of great stories out there in the fashion world — including from men who wear dresses.
Some sneak into their sister's or mother's closet.
Others take their first steps by borrowing their girlfriend's wardrobe.
A fair few find their own wife's dresses interesting — at least, that's what you read online.
However it starts, the question eventually comes up: where do I buy dresses as a man?
Or: where do I find high heels for men?

Dresses, skirts and more — online shopping
Dresses for men?
When shopping, pay attention to the actual manufacturer — Breuninger itself is a reseller, not a brand.
Current sale at Breuninger*
Breuninger online shop
It's no secret that Breuninger is a very good address for luxury brands, fine cuts and upmarket fashion. So it's no surprise the online shop offers a genuinely dreamy, incredibly diverse range. Still, it's worth knowing that sizing especially needs checking against reviews. Since Breuninger doesn't manufacture its own products but acts as a reseller, every brand (like BOSS or Scotch & Soda) has its own cut and fit. Good tip: check the reviews and ratings on each item to see whether it runs narrow or generous.
Experiences in local stores
Breuninger reinvents the in-store shopping experience — a cupcake here, a glass of sparkling wine there. It's genuinely impressive how modern and open the stores feel. There's one small drawback locally, though, and it's the commission system in my view. It's off-putting when sales staff get almost too eager to slap that little sticker on a price tag just to earn their commission. I'm all for good advice and service! But an "let me just check this jacket's zipper" or "are these laces tied properly?" feels intrusive when it happens on the way to the register and you notice the quick hand movement placing the sticker. If you'd rather have your peace, shop online.
Anything else worth knowing?
Both shipping and returns are always smooth. Even when the courier or delivery service makes a mistake, Breuninger responds immediately and always resolves it to the customer's full satisfaction.
Hallhuber — dresses, skirts & accessories
Women's outfits for men?
Hallhuber also offers pieces in larger sizes that perfectly complement a business or casual look.

Hallhuber online shop
The shop is designed clean and modern. All the important filter functions are there, so switching between categories is effortless. Buying on invoice is also available for new customers.
I can't personally speak to the physical stores, since I haven't visited one yet — possibly because Hallhuber's tagline is "women's clothing," and I'd rather get dressed in private.
The blazer and white skirt were bought at Hallhuber in size 44.
Impressionen online shop
Dress, live, feel good.
A colourful range and a rich assortment always make a look into the Impressionen shop worthwhile!

Impressionen
Here you'll find everything from fashion to stylish homeware. The shop is designed clean and modern, and it's genuinely fun to browse and order — whether for yourself or your loved ones, just window shopping or ordering a new favourite outfit right away.
What about sizing?
Depending on the category, sizes go up to 46. I personally wear between 44 and 46 and pretty much always find something I like. The selection of skirts in large sizes, for example, is impressively varied. My shoe size is 42–44 (UK 8–10), which doesn't always work as well in the Impressionen online shop.
Shopping guide
"Where did you get that gorgeous dress? I can barely find cuts that fit..." (Social media)
Women's fashion naturally offers far more cuts, shapes and colours to choose from in classic shopping. Add in the fact that male anatomy simply differs from female anatomy, and the choice gets even trickier. On top of that, not everyone feels comfortable slipping into the women's department and trying on a dress in the changing room. Thankfully, online shops exist! In this constantly updated shopping guide, I want to highlight which ones have a particularly great selection, are laid out clearly, and offer large sizes. Most links on this overview page are affiliate links. Buying through the shop supports this blog and I earn a commission — at no extra cost to you. Thanks in advance, and happy shopping!
