The Man in a Summer Dress – Men in Dresses in Summer
Summer is in full swing again — so what do you actually wear, how short can it be, and which colors and fabrics work best? Let's talk dresses in meetings.

Summer is really going full throttle again. A bit too much for my taste, if you're not actually on vacation, don't you think?
Men and women alike are rightly asking themselves right now: what do I even wear? How short can it be ;-)? And which colors and fabrics work best?
But quickly, in response to your Insta DMs and emails: I'm doing well 🙂. Yes, it's gotten quiet around here. Work has had me completely swamped lately, plus a thing or two going on in my personal life. And then there's this heat. And that's what today's post is about — the heat, and wearing dresses in meetings.
What do you wear when it's hot?
That really depends on how hot it is! But tights are definitely off the table for now ;-). They're not going anywhere near my legs right now. Sure, they add the necessary shine and glamour, but since I'm working from home anyway these days, that works out fine.
The much more interesting question is: "what goes on top?" And today I got a genuinely charming compliment from my wife for my summery choice of color: pink.
Tamaris wedge sandals with pink straps (not the pumps in the photo, in the end) are not only quiet in the office, they're also an absolute eye-catcher, and comfortable to boot. Paired with a pink Tommy Hilfiger polo dress — perfect. I already love wearing polo shirts, so this recent find came at exactly the right time. And I have to admit, these things are a total win for hot summer outfits.
The man in a polo dress
Whenever I have to show up on camera for work, the outfit gets tricky. Some pieces still fit "reasonably" well into a traditionally masculine picture in meetings — or at least a plain, unpatterned one. Whether it's a black or white blouse without lace or pattern, or a navy blazer, none of it draws much attention. The new polo dress turned out to be exactly the same.
So today I felt like having a little secret during my meeting again, and threw the dress on.
The client call started, and she didn't notice a thing. Or she simply didn't let it show — that's possible too, of course.
It's honestly fascinating, and encouraging, to realize that everyone is far too preoccupied with themselves to pay much attention to what YOU'RE wearing.
Why summer dresses belong to men too
By the way, I find it funny that there are tons of newspaper articles about men wearing dresses and skirts simply because the office dress code banned them from wearing shorts.
They rebelled against a dress "code" dictating what they were and weren't allowed to wear. Either way, I'm genuinely curious to see where this trend goes next.
What's your take on it? Do you wear dresses or skirts at the office — and what's your gender? Feel free to leave a comment.
